WHAT'S AT STAKE?
Without additional funding from a referendum, the Wauwatosa School District might face:
Staff reductions, leading to larger class sizes. Packing in more kids per class reduces personalized instruction time, increases the likelihood of behavior problems, and expands teachers’ workload — all factors that can hurt teacher retention.
Educator pay freezes, making it more difficult to attract and retain the most talented and experienced teachers in a midst of a national teacher shortage. That, in turn, affects the quality of our kids’ education.
Cuts to elective courses that aren’t required by state law, such as elementary music, theater, and other specialty programming. That makes it less likely that some children will discover new passions and could force families to leave Tosa for more well-rounded programming in other schools.
Failures of building systems (such as old boilers and roofs) that could lead to costly repairs and disrupt the learning environment. Watch this video to learn more about the condition of our district's facilities.
